William Faulkner correspondence regarding a speaking engagement at the University of Virginia [manuscript], 1957-1958.

In a letter, 1957 December 1, Faulkner writes to A. B. Shepperson, Chairman of the English Dept. at the University of Virginia, regarding an invitation to speak. With the letter is the envelope, one of many self addressed stamped envelopes sent to Faulkner [by an autograph hunter?] and used by Faulkner for other correspondence. The collection also contains the carbon of a letter from John E. Bomar, President of the University of Virginia Club of Washington, 1958 January 5, regretfully rescinding the invitation as it was counter to University policy.
